The Nitecore LR60 campbank plus is a rechargeable camping lantern, but also functions as a power bank to charge external devices.
Offering 280 lumens of diffused white light in the highest setting from 9 high CRI LEDs (CRI ≥ 90) with a colour temperature of 4000-4500 K, the LR60 has an extreme colour rendering capability with the light profile resembling natural sunlight and therefore reducing eye strain while providing a vibrant and detailed view of objects.
It features dual fuel technology that means as well as being powered by two button top 21700 lithium-ion batteries (recommended), it can also use two 18650 lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, four 16340 lithium-ion rechargeable batteries or four CR123A non-rechargeable lithium metal batteries when using the included battery carriers that allows for compatibility of the other battery types (batteries not included). This flexibility means you have more than one option when it comes to a backup, including a non-rechargeable option for when power isn't available.
In an emergency the light can also run off just one 21700/18650 lithium-ion battery to decrease the chances of you being left in the dark. While compatible, RCR123A lithium-ion batteries cannot be recharged inside the torch, and CR123A lithium metal batteries should never be recharged.
Lithium-ion 21700/18650 batteries can be recharged inside the lantern via the included USB-C cable. Simply pop open the dust cover on the bottom of the lantern and insert the USB-C in the lantern and the standard USB-A into a USB power source. While charging a blue light in the tip of the lantern will slowly flash and once charging is complete it will turn solid blue after approximately 4 hours, 30 minutes when charging two 21700 5000 mAh batteries using quick charging.
The LR60 can also be used as a power bank, which will use the power from the installed batteries to charge external devices by inserting the charging cable of your device into the standard USB-A port of the lantern which is also located on the bottom next to the USB-C port. The blue indicator will stay on constantly to show the external device is being charged.
Three brightness levels as well as SOS and beacon are available and are operated using the dual control buttons on either side of the lantern. The buttons have the same functions and have to be pressed together to turn it on, which helps prevent accidental activation of the lantern. To turn the light on press and hold both buttons until the low mode is activated. Once on in low mode, either button can then be single pressed to cycle from low to mid and high. Short press both buttons together to turn the light off.
Beacon and SOS are accessed from off by holding both buttons down until the lantern cycles through low, beacon and SOS, and then release the button at the desired output. Location beacon can be activated by pressing and holding both buttons while the light is on, which will turn the light off and the blue location indicator in the tip of the lantern will flash once every two seconds to indicate when the lantern is. This function can be turned off by activating the lantern and then turning it off as normal.
A handy feature of the LR60 is the multiple illuminable direction function which allows you to change the degree of light that is emitted from the lantern. While the light is on, press and hold either button to cycle through the directional settings in the order of top, one side, one side + top and full illumination. This function has a memory recall, so the directional setting last used will be remembered next time it is turned on.
A blue indicator will display battery voltage each time the first battery is installed. For example if the voltage is 4.2 V, it will flash four times then pause and then flash two more times. The power indicator will also flash to show remaining battery power when either button is short pressed with the light off. Three flashes is +50%, two flashes is below 50% and one flash is below 10% indicating that the batteries should be charged or changed.
The base of the lantern incorporates a powerful magnet, allowing you to attach the LR60 to metal surfaces for hands free use, or using the metal hanging hook that is stowed underneath the lantern, it can be hung from a range of places.
