Fenix HP16R Rechargeable LED Head Torch

The Fenix HP16R is a rechargeable head torch that delivers a maximum output of 1250 lumens from the spot light, 400 lumens from the floodlight, and also offers a third LED with a red light output.

The main Luminus SST40 LED provides a spotlight than can reach up to 255 metres with a maximum output of 1250 lumens. The side Cree XP-G3 S4 LED provides a high CRI 75 neutral white wide angle flood lighting with a maximum output of 400 lumens and a colour temperature of 4500 K, while the side Everlight 2835 red LED provides low level red constant and red flash outputs which is useful for preserving the eye's natural night vision and many activities including astronomy, night reading and animal watching.

The spot and functional (flood and red) lighting are controlled separately and can be used individually or combined. Two buttons are located on top of the head torch and are operated in the same way with the general button controlling the main spot LED and the functional button controlling the flood and red LED. Press and hold either button for 0.5 seconds to turn the light on and off, and single press to change the mode once on. The general button will cycle through low, mid, high and turbo, while the functional button will cycle through low flood, mid flood, high flood, red and red flash. The last used setting will be recalled the next time the light is turned on.

Power to the HP16R is supplied from the battery box mounted on the back of the head band which is connected to the lamp by a strong, light weight braided cable with anti-stress S curve fitting in the headband. A 3000 mAh lithium polymer battery pack is included and can be charged within the battery box via the USB-C charging port. Simply remove the dust cover from the port to plug in the USB-C cable and then connect it to a USB power source. A red charging indicator will illuminate to show charging is in progress and turn green once charging is complete after approximately 3 hours.

Alternatively four AA alkaline or NiMH batteries can be used in the battery box, which is handy as a back up if you run out of charge away from a power source. Alkaline batteries are not rechargeable and the torch must never be plugged into charge with AA alkaline or NiMH batteries fitted.

A single press of either button while off will activate the battery indicator LED and display the power level for 3 seconds. Green light indicates 85-100% power, green flashing indicates 50-85% power, red light indicates 25-50% power and red flashing LED indicates less than 1-25% remaining, charge the headlamp as soon as possible. This will only work with the included lithium polymer battery inserted.

To prevent accidental activation the HP16R has a lockout function which can be activated by holding down one or both buttons while the light is off for 3 seconds and the lamp will blink red three times to indicate the locked status, and can be unlocked again in the same way.

The temperature regulation will automatically step down the brightness if the torch is constantly used in higher output becomes too hot (65°C). Once the torch has cooled the high mode can be reselected again.

Note: *The turbo mode is measured at total run-time including any reduced output levels due to the temperature regulation design.

Tested in laboratory conditions to ANSI/PLATO FL1 standard using the included Fenix ARB-LP3000 lithium polymer rechargeable battery under the temperature of 21±3°C and humidity of 50% - 80%. Results may vary between torch, battery and environments.
