Fenix HM61R V2.0 Rechargeable LED Head Torch

The Fenix HM61R V2.0 is a high power rechargeable torch that offers a maximum output of 1600 lumens white light from a Luminus SST40 LED and also features an additional red LED.

Unlike a traditional hand torch, the light does not come from the end of the torch and instead comes from the side of the torch making the HM61R V2.0 a versatile unit. It can be used as a head torch with the hollow headband, which is lightweight, breathable and features reflective strips around the band to increase visibility. A top strap helps the head band stay in place on the head or a helmet and the torch sits securely in the bracket of the head band.

It can also easily be used in the hand, or when attached to a shirt pocket with the included clip the light is perfectly pointing outwards from the body so it can be used hands free. Another hands free feature is the magnetic base which allows simple attachment to a magnetic surface for a hassle free work environment.

The torch is powered using the included 3400 mAh 18650 lithium-ion rechargeable battery or it can also use two CR123A non rechargeable lithium metal battery, however do not attempt to charge the torch with these batteries inserted. With an 18650 battery inserted, the torch is easily charged via the magnetic charging system by attaching the magnetic end of the included charging cable to the port located on the back of the head and the other end to a USB power source. The charging indicator will turn red to show charging is in progress and will turn green to show charging is complete after approximately 4 hours when using the included battery.

The HM61R features five white brightness levels and three red modes that are accessed using a single switch on the end of the torch, near the head. Hold the button for 0.5 to turn the light on in the white outputs and then each press will cycle through eco, low, mid, high and turbo. The last used brightness setting will be memorised and the torch will turn on in that setting the next time round.

The red light can be directly accessed, so this means that the natural night vision can be preserved as the white light doesn't need to be turned on to reach the red outputs. To access the red outputs hold down the button for 1.2 seconds and the red light will always turn on in low and then each press will cycle between red low, red high and red flash. Hold the button for half a second to turn the light off in either white or red mode, or to switch between mode with the light already on, hold the button for 1.2 seconds.

To prevent accidental activation in transit the HM61R V2.0 has a lockout feature. With the light turned off press and hold the switch for 3 seconds and the light will blink red 4 times to show lockout mode has been activated. Repeat this step again to exit lockout mode.

A battery level indicator is built into the switch and when the button is pressed once with the light off it will display for 3 seconds either green (100-85%), green flashing (85-50%), red (50-25%) or red flashing (25-1%) which indicates critical and the battery should be charged.

There is a built-in overheat protection that will automatically lower the brightness if the torch reaches 65°C or over in the higher settings, in order to protect the LED and there is also a low voltage warning function that will detect when the battery level is critical for the current output, and the indicator will flash red to remind you to charge the battery. There is also a built in charge protection function that stops charging if the detected temperature exceeds 65°C.
