Fenix HM60R Rechargeable LED Head Torch

The Fenix HM60R is a rechargeable head torch that delivers a maximum output of 1200 lumens and is designed with running in mind, but is equally suitable for general use. This versatile light incorporates a Dual Distance main beam, pure flood beam and red flood beam as well as a stride frequency sensor that will alter the brightness according to your speed.

The dual distance main beam uses a Luminus SST40 LED that has a combination of a smooth reflector with a textured lens directly over the LED to provide a beam profile that consists of a spot light, near light and a wide area spill light, with a beam range of up to 116 metres. The left hand XP-G2 neutral white LED has a fully textured lens and provides pure flood lighting with no hotspot, offering a high output of 350 lumens or a mid output of 70 lumens. Two red 2835 LEDs sit on the far left providing constant red or red flash, and are useful for preserving night vision or activities such as animal spotting and astronomy.

Two settings of spotlight mode and function mode are available, with the main white LED outputs falling under spotlight mode and the neutral white LED and red LED outputs falling under functional mode. A single button is located on the right end of the torch and controls all lighting functions. Press and hold the button for 0.5 seconds to turn the light on in spotlight mode, or double press the button to turn the light on in functional mode. Once turned on in either mode, the light can be switched to the other mode by holding the button down for 1.2 seconds.

When turned on in spotlight mode each press will cycle through low, mid, high, turbo and when turned on in functional mode each press will cycle through red, mid, high, red SOS. Holding the button for 0.5 seconds will turn the light off and the last used setting in spotlight mode will be remembered next time the light is turned on.

The stride frequency sensing feature works in the spotlight mid and high brightness levels, measuring your running pace, then automatically brightening or dimming the main beam depending on how fast you are going. As your pace increases and your stride goes over 220 steps per minute the brightness will increase, or if your pace slows and goes below 150 steps per minute then the brightness will lower. This dynamic feature is designed to optimise use and allow the user to focus on their activity.

To prevent accidental activation the HM60R has a lockout function. To access the lockout, with the lamp turned off, press and hold the button for 3 seconds and the red light will blink three times to show it is in lockout. Hold the button again for 3 seconds to unlock the light and it will turn on in red light mode.

The included 18650 rechargeable 2600 mAh lithium-ion battery is charged inside the headlamp via the hidden USB Type-C charging port which can be revealed by unscrewing the cover on the same side as the button. Plug in the included USB Type-C cable at one end and plug the standard USB-A end into a USB power source. The charging indicator will go red to show charging is in progress and change to green charging is complete after approximately 3 hours (full charge) with a 2 A output when charging the included 2600 mAh battery (a larger capacity battery will take longer to charge).

Alternatively you can use 2 x CR123A lithium metal non-rechargeable batteries, however these cannot be charged inside the torch and therefore must not be connected to the charging cable wit CR123A batteries inside.

When the torch is off, pressing the button once will display the battery level indicator for 3 seconds with either a green, green flashing, red or red flashing light to show the battery power remaining and notify you when the battery needs charging.

The headband is comfortable and adjustable, has a silicone strip on the inside that channels sweat and rain away from the eyes and the weaved design is hollow to not only reduce the weight but also provide more breathability and comfort. On the outer part of the headband there are reflective strips, which are excellent for enhanced visibility, and the head band can withstand the tensile test 3000 times. The headlamp bracket is ergonomically designed to comfortably fit the curvature of the head and it also allows the head torch to be tilted within a 180° angle.

For extra durability and resilience the HM60R is made from lightweight aluminium which provides drop resistance up to 2 metres distance as well as being waterproof to IP68 standard, and also withstands extreme weather temperatures of -35° to 40° (cold weather battery recommended for extreme cold temperatures).

Note: *The turbo mode is measured at total run-time including any reduced output levels due to the temperature regulation design.

Tested in laboratory conditions to ANSI/PLATO FL1 standard using 1 x Fenix 2600 mAh 18650 lithium-ion rechargeable battery under the temperature of 21±3°C and humidity of 50% - 80%. Results may vary between torch, battery and environments.
