BioLite HeadLamp 800 Pro Rechargeable LED Head Torch

£109.98

The BioLite HeadLamp 800 Pro is a high performance rechargeable head torch, that features a rear red safety light. It offers a 800 lumen burst output, both spot and flood outputs as well as a white strobe and red flood output.

The 3D Slimfit construction prevents bounce as the housing is integrated directly into the headband for a flush front that stays put, while the moisture wicking smart fabric of the headband keeps you comfortable and dry. Additionally the battery pack sits on the back of the head to evenly distribute the 150 gram weight, and features a rear red light with constant and flashing outputs to keep you seen and safe.

The lighting interface is composed of a large central spot capable of a 800 lumen burst output that lasts for 30 seconds, or 500 lumens on the highest constant mode. Two smaller flood LEDs sit to the left offering white flood and red flood outputs. Both white and spot can be used together to provide a combined beam. All outputs are dimmable to get the ideal brightness, and the head torch has a hinged bracket, allowing the light to be tilted for the best angle.

A large glove friendly button on the top controls all the front outputs, and will cycle through the outputs with each press within 0.5 seconds of each other in the order of red flood, white spot, white flood, white spot + flood, white strobe and off. If in any mode for longer that half a second the next press will instead turn the light off. To dim the brightness in any setting (including red & strobe!) simply hold down the button and release at your desired output. The brightness will decreases or increase, and flash to let you know once it reaches the maximum at either end.

The rear battery pack has two buttons, with the smaller of the two controlling the rear red safety light and the larger of the two controlling the burst output and run-time modes. Press the smaller rear button in half second increments to cycle rear red constant, rear red flash and off. To access the 800 lumen burst mode press the larger button once and it will activate for 30 seconds at a time.

Two usage modes are available, with regulated run-time being the default and constant run-time can be turned on by holding down the large button on the rear battery pack until a blue light comes on to notify you it is active. The regulated mode will gradually decrease in lumen output in order to prolong run-times, which is great if you are in a situation where longer run-times are essential. If brightness is more important, you can switch to constant current mode which will maintain the brightness at a cost of a shorter run-time.

A low level battery warning will drop the output to 100 lumens, and the light will flash four times every minute for 10 minutes to warn that you are about to enter reserve mode. Once reserve mode is entered the output will drop to 5 lumens in white mode or 0.2 lumens in red mode and will have 8 hours run-time left. This is useful for when you may be away from a power source, as it does not leave you completely in the dark. Simply charge up the headlamp to be able to exit these modes.

The integrated 3000 mAh lithium-ion battery sits in a battery pack on the back of the head, and can be charged by lifting the dust cover on the underneath to reveal the micro USB port. Then simply plug the included micro USB cable into the charging port and the other end into a suitable USB power source. The four charging indicators will flash and become solid in turn, until eventually all four lights are solid to indicate a full charge after approximately 2 hours, 30 minutes. Remove the cable and ensure the dust cover is properly replaced to maintain the IPX4 water resistance rating. The four indicators will also display the battery power for three seconds when the light is first turn on, and again when it is turned off.

Also thanks to pass-thru charging you can use your headlamp while simultaneously powering it up. The included 3ft Run Forever cable give you the length to enable you to connect to a external powerbank that may be in your back pack, in a pocket or on a belt.

A lockout function prevents accidental activation in transit and the HeadLamp 800 is put into lockout mode by holding the button down for 8 seconds while the light is off until the light blinks twice. To exit lockout mode repeat the process again, and the light will blink once. This will also need to be done when you first take it out of the packaging as it is stored in lockout mode to preserve the battery.

Thanks to the adjustable clips on the headband, the size can be adjusted by pulling on both clips at the same time to tighten or pushing them closer to loosen the headband.
